Lesbian Prom Date Controversy

Constance McMillen was ready to go to prom with her date. However, she is in a lesbian relationship, and her date wanted to wear a tux. Apparently the school had a problem with this (an ultra-conservative Southern area) and instead canceled prom.

Way to chicken out. The problem with this country we just don't deal with problems. If the school had a problem with gay people, why couldn't they just ask the girls to buy the tickets seperately or go as "friends"? Not that it's the best solution, because I think any gay couple should go as is. But cancelling prom as a way to solve a problem? Not really. I mean I wore dress pants to one of my dances and no one said anything. Who really cares as long as you don't show up to a prom not dressed properly? And did not our forefathers come to this country for religious freedom? People who are homophobic tend to be (not always) really religious and buy the Bible crap that marriage is between a man an woman. You can't push your AGENDA on other people. Believe what you want to believe is fine, but don't make it your goal to push your beliefs on someone else.

Let the kids have fun at a dance. Isn't is what prom is all about? Kudos to the young ladies for standing up for themselves. Shame on the school for wussing out. Work with the kids, that is what your job is, not against them. If you can't be there for the kids, get the hell out and find something else to do with your life.
